Community House Project on the Move – Consultation Workshops for Tenants and Users

The planning for the Wanaka Community House (for the Upper Clutha) is moving along at a great pace.
A Community House is a place that will provide a purpose built facility for community services. The services will range from Community Networks and all the fantastic services that they provide as well as counsellors, community advice and support. There will also be room for music groups, arts and cultural groups as well as Church events such as weddings and funerals.
The Trust’s Building Committee is working with Condon Scott Architects to ensure that the buildings detailed design is in line with what many community groups have stipulated that they need. Details such as multiple power points in the meeting rooms for lots of sewing machines for quilters and arts groups; sufficient storage for music gear to have a music hub and rooms with sound proofing for confidential appointments.
Fundraising with Charitable Trusts is underway and we are delighted that the Sargood Bequest are supporting the facility. Over the last year we have received $100,000 towards the resource consent costs and for the communal reception area. Other applications are currently underway for funding from other local community trusts.
Those wanting to be full time/part time tenants, or use the facility periodically, are meeting together on Thursday 15th June to review the progress to date. They will hear about the Build timeline and have final input into the detailed drawings. There’s also the chance to look at the nitty gritty of how everybody wants the place to function and refine structures and policies for operation.
Details: Thursday 15th June from 9am - 12 noon at the Wanaka Yacht Club. This will be followed by a light lunch and the Wanaka Community House Charitable Trust AGM at 1.00pm.
